Thanka began to flourish during the reigns of Vth
Dalai Lama and today’s most widely acclaimed
and priceless antic Thanka artifacts are the product
of those days. This unique skill has been inherited
from generation to generation and is still very much
alive and intact.
Mr. Pasang Bhutia, Director of The art of Tibet Applique
Thanka, has inherited this precious skill from well-known
appliqué art master Mr. Tendar Kunchok, who
inherited the same skill from Venerable Phuntsok Tsering,
who is the personal appliqué Art Master of
His Holiness the Dalai Lama.Within few years of its
